2º ano - Technology
Technology
In our days man has achieved a tremendous progress in science and technology.
With technology man has almost occupied all parts of the Earth. He lives in the most torrid climates as well as in the coldest places of the world . He can live on the small islands lost in the ocean as well as in the desert.
Man has built modern bridges , dams , power stations and has dominated some forces of nature such as the water of rivers, lakes and seas.
Man has invented many types of machines and modern devices to improve his life on the Earth.
Man has sent spaceships to other planets and little by little he is conquering the universe.
Man has already controlled some bad diseases by means of modern resoucers of medicine.
But there are so many things to do in the future !
Man hasn’t found the cure for AIDS yet.
Man hasn’t finished with the wars .
Man hasn’t solved the problem of hunger and many other social problems.
Man hasn’t learnt to protect nature from pollution and destruction y

1º ano Social Problems
Social Problems
Man has achieved a wonderful progress in science and tecnology . But... what is the real meaning of progress ? More goods and money ? Progress must be understood as a way to make life easier , more comfortable and more enjoyable . An uncontrolled progress would bring many troubles for everybody.
In our days, social problems are complicated and difficult to solve . One problem sometimes causes other problems .
If we write a list of them it will be a very long one .
Here you have some that are suffocating our society.
We are now living in a period of enormous population growth.
A lot of people say that pollution has become one of the greatest problems today. Pollution of the water, of the air , of the soil, industrial pollution, waste , rubbish and sewer... make life unbearable.
Traffic congestion in large cities is a big trouble for many people.
Drugs, violence, crime and diseases like cancer and AIDS became serious enemies of modern society.
Government authorities, scientists, political and religious leaders can use their knowledge and influence to improve our world and keep citizens rights : right to live, right to food, right to housing , right to jobs and to education .
